Help us write the next chapter of New Orleans’ story—one book at a time.

Presentation Description

Help us Write the Next Chapter of New Orleans’ Story—One Book at a Time is more than just a call to action; it’s an invitation to invest in the future of our city by empowering its most valuable resource—our people. As we stand at a critical point in history, with the challenges of inequality, educational barriers, and cultural erosion looming large, Baldwin & Co. and its nonprofit arm are determined to preserve and uplift the spirit of New Orleans through literacy, education, and community engagement.

Through our foundation’s initiatives—financial literacy workshops, language tutoring, and book events that amplify underrepresented voices—we are reshaping the narrative for generations to come. But we can’t do it alone. We need your help to provide the tools, resources, and opportunities for young minds and lifelong learners to flourish. Every book we provide, every child we teach, every community program we launch helps write a new chapter in New Orleans’ story—one that speaks of resilience, innovation, and hope.

Together, we can build a city where education is the great equalizer, where every person has access to the knowledge that can transform their lives. By contributing to our mission, you’re not just making a donation; you’re helping write the future of New Orleans, page by page. Let’s work together to create a legacy that celebrates the vibrant, diverse, and storied culture of this great city—one book at a time.

Presenter Biography

DJ Johnson
DJ Johnson is a visionary entrepreneur, community leader, and a tireless advocate for social change, whose work has had a transformative impact across New Orleans and beyond. As the founder of Baldwin & Co., NOLA Art Bar, and Baldwin & Co., and 501c3 nonprofit, Baldwin & Co. Foundation, Johnson has established cultural and intellectual hubs where community engagement, social justice, and literature intersect. A proud native of New Orleans, DJ Johnson’s journey began after earning degrees from Clark Atlanta University and Georgia State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems and a Master of Business Administration. His professional career took root at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), where he served for 20 years, rising to the role of Chief Infrastructure Manager. There, Johnson oversaw departments with an annual budget of $330 million, gaining invaluable experience in financial management and large-scale operations. Johnson’s expertise doesn’t stop with financial oversight. After leaving the FDIC, he channeled his knowledge into a thriving career in real estate development, where his knack for turning underperforming properties into valuable assets became evident. His real estate firm, FAML LLC, specializes in transforming neglected buildings into flourishing residential and commercial properties. In his hometown of New Orleans, he spearheaded the revitalization of the iconic Gene’s Po-Boy building, converting it into a vibrant community hub, soon to host a new financial health center in partnership with Credit Human. Johnson’s work with Credit Human highlights his broader mission of fostering financial empowerment for underserved communities. The new financial health center on Elysian Fields will provide critical financial education, access to capital, and entrepreneurial support, helping to close the wealth gap in New Orleans’ Black neighborhoods. His collaboration with Credit Human underscores his dedication to creating sustainable economic opportunities for communities of color. Beyond his financial ventures, Johnson’s cultural contributions shine through his businesses. His acclaimed NOLA Art Bar was recognized as one of the top 12 bars in New Orleans by New Orleans Magazine, while Baldwin & Co. has quickly become a national treasure, featured in publications like Oprah’s Book Club, The New York Times, USA Today, and Rolling Stone. The bookstore serves as a beacon for readers and activists alike, creating a space where dialogue about literature and social change flourishes. Baldwin & Co. is not just a bookstore, but a platform for transnational conversations on race, justice, and progress. Johnson’s passion for uplifting his community is further embodied through the Baldwin & Co. Foundation. The foundation addresses disparities in education, income, and employment in Black communities by providing scholarships, mentorship programs, and financial literacy initiatives. Johnson’s commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty, reducing crime, and improving economic mobility through education makes him a true community champion. DJ Johnson’s contributions have earned him widespread recognition. Named one of the “Top 20 Most Influential People in New Orleans” by Adore Magazine in 2022, he continues to be a force for cultural and economic enrichment in his city. Whether through his thriving real estate developments, his pioneering businesses, or his charitable initiatives, DJ Johnson’s work is a testament to his unwavering dedication to social equity, community building, and economic empowerment. With his visionary leadership, dynamic presence, and deep-rooted commitment to positive change, DJ Johnson is a highly accomplished figure whose impact continues to grow. His impressive portfolio of achievements makes him a standout guest for any radio or TV program, offering insights into entrepreneurship, financial literacy, community revitalization, and the power of culture. DJ Johnson is, without a doubt, a leader to watch and a voice to amplify.
